Usually when we see the the label, made in Pakistan we hesitate to buy the thing its printed on. Yet if its made in Taiwan or China or Japan we don’t give it a second thought. But in case of footballs, if the tag says made in Pakistan; no one should give it a second thought because 70% of the world’s footballs are made right there in Sialkot, Pakistan.
60 million hand stitched footballs are made each year in Sialkot and sold to companies like Adidas and Nike and Reebok. And you’d better believe they’re the best because this year, FIFA has placed an order to Forward Sports in Sialkot to make the official football for the FIFA World Cup 2014.
Forward Sports is the largest manufacturer of footballs in Pakistan. It regularly supplies footballs to Adidas and has made the official footballs for Europe’s UEFA Champions League, the Africa Cup of Nations and the German Bundesliga. All of those balls are arranged in the Office of the CEO of Forward Sports, Mr Khwaja Masood Akhtar. One spot remains empty, the one for the FIFA World Cup Football.
For Mr. Akhtar, this is the realization of a dream which he has been chasing for a long time. According to him, when he was offered the honor of manufacturing the official ball of the FIFA World Cup, he had a massive party with his staff.
Even though Pakistan’s football teams are in their infancy and stand practically no chance against the giants of the FIFA World Cup, the ball teams will be running after to chase glory; will be made by a Pakistani.
