Haven, a startup has come up with a much secure option for preventing your home from burglars. They have developed a smart door lock with no locks to pick or deadbolts to crack.
The smart home has seen many different types of door security option to date such as August, Goji, Kwikset’s Kevo, and Lockitron. According to CNET, their technical expert and a professional locksmith were able to break these locks in under a minute. FBI statistics show that 80% of the break-ins occur at the front or back door which is a clear indication that these locks cannot fight against burglars and a better lock design is required.
Haven Smart Lock does not use the traditional design rather it is anchored inside at the base of door. It utilizes a simple wedge to provide a sturdier support to withstand a forced entry. The smart lock is built from steel, glass reinforced nylon and aluminum which makes it durable.
One of the creator Clay Banks said, “We built this because we knew there had to be a better way to use technology to protect our families and we didn’t want to be a victim of the next break-in.”
The Haven Smart Lock uses your phone to open or close the door at will. This way you can come and go without bothering for keys and can extent the access to friends and families. You can also manually unlock the door from inside. The lock is Wi-Fi- and Bluetooth-enabled for Android, iOS devices and wearable.
The smart lock is battery powered and equipped with relays so it will remain in operation if you lose power or if the internet is not working. Haven claims to have Nest Developer Program and Apple iOS 8 HomeKit integration in the works.
Haven’s Kickstarter campaign is launched and is a third of the way toward its $150,000 funding goal. The Smart Lock will cost at $200 for early backers and units are supposed to ship in August 2015.
