REX stands for Reappraisal of Architecture. Its a company that has designed huge structures in cities like New York and Istanbul. Now its setting its sights on the Middle East.
REX is partnering with two sister Middle Eastern companies, the identities of whom have not yet been revealed, to create a pair of towers (read “twin towers”) that are specifically designed to beat the heat. The two towers are incredibly beautiful in concept and have the standard design of most Middle Eastern architecture which is that the bottom half of the towers house basements and studios and the top half houses businesses, Clinics, law firms, accounting firms, labs etc.
The innovation in these towers is the awesome retractable umbrellas fitted on to their sides. When the sun faces either side of the tower, a 60 second protocol is activated allowing umbrellas to open up on that particular side of the skyscrapers and cover them whole allowing the residents to beat the heat.
Of course as the position of the sun shifts and the skyscraper faces the sun on the opposite side the umbrellas will retract on the one side and reappear on the other side. This will result in a 700 ft wide curtain descending across either tower each time the sun’s glare gets too annoying.
The Umbrella face inside out like the traditional umbrellas covering the roof of the Masjid-e-Nabavi in Medina.
The towers will also be built to be giant advertising machines as the entire eastern side will be laden with LEDs to act as a television screen, broadcasting the companies’ content to the city.
