Advance robotic technologies are breaking the realm of movies. Will the human fate be same as in the movies, ultimately giving in to the machine rule? We don’t know that. However, we do know that humans are getting to the “Real Steel “era. Perhaps not in boxing arena but other games, though still part human.
Recently, the Augsburg-based robot and automation company KUKA has signed the German table tennis player Timo Boll as brand ambassador in China. He is considered a legend in table tennis and has visited china more than 60 times. For the factory’s grand opening in shanghai, he would take on a robot in table tennis in an event on 11th March 2014.
The company has ruled the technology world for over a decade now. The robot arm manufactured is fast, agile, precise and reliable. They are part of a new robot line namely KUKA’s small robots. This series will be used for small payloads of 6 kg and 10 kg. It is speculated to be unique in providing the best human-machine interaction and changing the face of automation.
Can it match the human brain and expertise of the best player in his game? It is yet to be seen. The ultimate duel could either be a game changing event for the company or just might tarnish its repute. If the robot win against Timo Boll, the company would prove the hard work they put in it. Tim Boll may have to live with the title “The Legend lost by a robot”.
